Non-Flashing

Number Observed:

11-50

Genus:

Photuris

Species:

lucicrescens

Observation Notes:

Female captured and photographed at 10:19 PM at the edge of the more wooded area at the south of Lake Nevin. Body length was large, ~17 mm. Pale hind coxae, fuzzy elytra and pronotum, interrupted pronotal vitta, and very prominent elytral vittae that were broad at the shoulder. Best guess would be Photuris lucicrescens. Photuris flash patterns in the area included single flashes in the tree tops and mid-canopy and slow glows (5 second flash period, ~1 second glow duration). Later in the survey (~10:50 pm), a Photuris was found perched feeding upon a mangled Photinus pyralis).
