Location and Habitat

Location Accuracy (meters):

Habitat Type:

Developed - Sub/urban areas; parks/gardens

Habitat Type Notes:

This section of the park is a Monarch waystation and has a wide array of native plants planted by Salt Lake City Public Lands. Dominant plants include: snowberry, milkweed, ranunculus, Castilleja, mints, pye weed, evening primrose and Nuttall's sunflower. The area has a stream running through it and a medium sized pond. The plant assemblage is similar to that of a wetland.

Elevation (meters):

Artificial Light Sources

Vehicles: Yes
Street Lights: Yes
Buildings: Yes

Artificial Light Types

Sky Glow (diffuse illumination in the sky): Yes
Light Trespass (light cast on surfaces beyond its intended target): Yes
Glare (bright light causing visual discomfort): No

Artificial Light Notes:

I observed the site during the day, and am unsure as to what light pollution effects this particular area. There is a busy street and a large building nearby. Salt Lake County has sky glow, so I assume that effects the area during the night.

Observation

Observation Type:

Non-Flashing

Number Observed:

1

Genus:

Pyropyga

Species:

nigricans

Observation Notes:

Seen resting on leaves in a shady location next to milkweed and what I believe to be a beggartick plant (common name). Not sure on the size, I did not measure. It was larger than Photinus alexanderi and possibly the same size as a Pyractomena dispersa.
